From desegregation to the fight for statehood, DC’s history of educational justice reveals both the promise and the persistence of community power. “Class Action: Education and Opportunity in the Nation’s Capital” is a new exhibit at the DC History Center which explores stories from Black students and families throughout DC’s history that resonate with today’s struggles for equitable schools, youth power, and self-determination.
Join this tour guided tour for the Free DC community to learn lessons from student organizers, educators, and community leaders who worked to reimagine education throughout DC’s history. Through small-group discussions and reflection, we’ll ask:
What can DC’s history of education teach us about justice today?
How can students and educators shape the city’s future?
What collective actions can we take now to build schools that truly serve everyone?
Whether you’re a student, teacher, organizer, or ally, this is a space to build relationships, learn from the past, and imagine what educational freedom could look like for DC’s next generation. Register to attend this program using the form below.
