4 Ways to take action at one year of DC’s occupation

For 11 days, from August 1-11, 2026, we listened to the stories of DC community members directly impacted by Trump’s occupation and the dozens of police and military forces that are working together under the “DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force.”

Through it all, we made it clear that this regime's attacks are moving DC closer toward statehood than any time in history, and they are uniting a growing and strengthening movement for DC's dignity.

Our organizing over the last year is working. There is no question that occupation forces are inflicting hurt and harm on our communities, but many of their attempts to gain power are failing.

Here are four ways you can help make sure the regime keeps losing in the months ahead.

  1. Our Power as Community Members

Learn how to Film the Police.

Video footage can make the difference between violent police officers being held accountable or going free. Attend the next Film the Police training on Monday, August 31.

Support Julian Bailey's family.

The Bailey family is seeking access to the DC-owned street camera footage from the day he was shot by U.S. Marshals. Sign the petition demanding the footage be released.

Support Nolberto Meza's family.

Nolberto's family has worked to return his body back to Venezuela. Donate to help them cover his burial costs.

Protect unhoused neighbors.

Occupation police routinely harass and displaced unhoused neighbors. Get trained to be a Legal Observer with Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless.

2. Our Power as Jurors

Learn your rights as a juror.

Jurors have the power to make any decision about what justice looks like in a given case. Attend our next Jury Information training ✨ tonight✨ from 6-8 PM in Ward 8.

3. Our Power as Consumers

Delete DoorDash.

You know the deal: Companies that attack us need to experience consequences. Delete your DoorDash account, ask five friends to do the same, and tell your favorite restaurants to stop using the platform. Visit DeleteDoorDash.com for resources and to help us track how many people are taking action.

Boycott Amazon and Target this Back-to-School season.

Target has been complicit with attacks on our communities, and Amazon is profiting off ICE detention. Instead, shop at these Local Businesses for a Free DC for all your Back-to-School needs.

Boycott Knightsbridge and STARR restaurants.

The Knightsbridge and STARR restaurant groups own Rasika, Bombay Club, Osteria Mozza, The Occidental, and Le Diplomate. When workers at these restaurants began to form a union, management threatened to call ICE and more. Learn more and back the boycott from UNITE HERE Local 25.

4. Our Power in Elections

Get to know the Members of Congress leading the attacks against DC.

As we look ahead to the midterm elections this November, we are paying attention to the Reps leading the attacks on our communities. Get to know the Members leading attacks on DC in Congress.

Express your interest in DC Election Protection this November.

Do you want to be a non-partisan Election Protection volunteer at a polling location here in DC on November 3? We are currently assessing if or how to do this again. If you are interested, fill out this short volunteer interest form.
