Protect our vote this June with the DC Election Protection Coalition
Every voter in DC should be able to participate in the upcoming June election fully and fairly. At a time when DC communities are under military occupation and the administration is threatening law enforcement “surges,” it’s up to us to protect voters and our right to vote.
To make this possible, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Advancement Project, Free DC, Harriet’s Wildest Dreams, Washington Interfaith Network, and other partners are coming together to form the DC Election Protection Coalition to assist and protect voters by answering questions and resolving issues throughout election season. Through the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline, 866-OUR-VOTE, and a trained corps of volunteers in the field, the DC Election Protection Coalition will protect the rights of all voters across the District.
Election Protection Field Volunteers will play a key role in this program by being present outside voting locations, assisting voters who might have questions or resolving issues as they evolve. Roles include Election Protection Field Attorney for volunteers with a legal background and Grassroots Poll Monitor for those who do not have a legal background. Additional roles prior to and after the election may be available as well.
Election Protection trainings will be held on June 8 and 9 and are required for volunteers but open to everyone. These trainings will explain what Election Protection is as well as what to expect on Election Day. Volunteers who sign up for a role on June 16 will wear identifying materials during their shift and be supervised directly by organization staff throughout their time volunteering.
