In December, DC Council passed a bill to make our local tax rates independent from federal tax rates. With the extra revenue generated from this change, DC Council created a tax credit for families struggling with poverty.
Now Congress is attempting to undo it. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and Congressman Brandon Gill (R-TX) have introduced S.J. Res 102 and H.J. Res 142 to “disapprove” this change and block DC from using our own local money to support children and families here. This effort is anti-family, it’s destabilizing for DC’s finances, and it’s wrong.
On Monday February 2, join DC Fiscal Policy Institute and Free DC for an organizing call to learn about what this change would mean for DC families, the District's finances, Home Rule, and how we can work to stop it.
