DC has been under a hostile military occupation for nearly an entire year, and for 11 days in August we are telling the story of the ways Trump’s occupation has hurt our communities.

August 9: Celebrating Malcolm X Park
Malcolm X Park at 16th Street NW & Euclid St NW has been a space of community celebration for decades. The week Malcolm X was assassinated in February of 1965, the Howard Theatre’s house drummer, Baba Ngoma, started a drum circle on the upper terrace. It became weekly. By the late 1960s, the park had become the staging ground for civil rights rallies and Black liberation organizing. 40 years later this Sunday tradition is still going strong.

Recently, the Trump regime has tried to claim this park as their own. We reject this attempt and celebrate this park's long proud history and future as a space for solidarity and justice.
