Pack the Room with Free DC: We demand autonomy over DC's tax laws

  • Rayburn House Office Bldg Room 2359 45 Independence Avenue Southwest Washington, District of Columbia, 20515 United States (map)

Join Free DC to pack the room for the House Oversight Committee markup of H.R. 9720, D.C. Taxing Authority Review Act.

House Republicans, led by Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, are marking up a bill that could be the biggest rollback of DC Home Rule to date (H.R. 9720).

The bill would prevent DC from changing major parts of its own tax code—including raising or lowering taxes—without congressional review and approval.

The same Congress that cannot pass the nation’s budget on time wants to control how DC generates revenue, in other words dictate half of any city budget.

We need DC residents in the room.

We will meet up outside of Room 2359 at 9:45am. Markup begins at 10am. Wear Free DC or pro-DC gear.
