Skills Series: People Power 101, Getting Started with Organizing Relationships

Anyone who is new to organizing is invited to learn about the strategies and practices that make strong movements with Free DC’s Skill Series. These classes are led by experienced organizers, are open to everyone in the DC region, and are completely free.

People Power 101: Getting Started with Organizing Relationships” will explore the role of relationship-building in creating robust, sustainable movements for democracy. Relationships motivate us to action in all kinds of ways, and they are a key part of successful movements.

In this interactive session you’ll learn:

  • The Purpose of a 1:1 – Why talking to people one-on-one is the foundation of strong movements.

  • Active Listening & Powerful Questions – It’s not just about what you say—it’s about how you listen.

  • Finding Out Someone's Motivation – What moves people to take action, and how can we tap into that?

  • Making an Ask – How to invite people to rise into their power and take the next step.

This session is presented in partnership with Rising Organizers, a training community which provides the tools and training necessary to cultivate an informed, active, and resilient democracy.
