Join the Ward 6 team at our December meeting! To celebrate the end of the year, we’re combining this meeting with an end-of-year celebration! See below for more details.
Although we highly encourage folks to attend a campaign orientation before plugging into our work more deeply, this meeting is open to all Ward 6 residents!
This meeting will be hybrid. Please register below to let us know how you plan to attend. (Note: only the first half of the meeting will be available virtually. We will end the Zoom meeting after the presentation portion wraps up around 7:50pm, and will then transition into fully in-person social time.)
If joining us in person, please note that St. Mark’s Church is located about a 10-15 minute walk from both the Capitol South Metro Station (Blue/Orange/Silver Lines) and Union Station (Red Line). Also, if you’re arriving in person, feel free to arrive as early as 6:45 PM! We will socialize for a few minutes and do an outdoor noise demonstration at 7:00 PM.
A few more things about what to expect from this meeting:
The first half of the meeting will include a presentation with updates from the last month, highlights from Free DC’s first year, and a presentation from Ward 6 Mutual Aid.
The second half of the meeting will be a social event with food, board games, and other activities.
We will be providing finger food, but you are welcome to bring in something if you’d like! Please let us know if you’re planning to bring anything at this link.
We will also be collecting donations for Ward 6 Mutual Aid! Ward 6 Mutual Aid is currently collecting winter gear to distribute to the people in the encampments around Union Station. Requested donations include: new/gently used blankets, hats, jackets, and gloves (adult sizes!) They also accept cash donations through their website: https://serveyourcitydc.org/donate/ (be sure to put “Free DC” in the comments when you submit!).
We will hold a small reading group during social time for our in-person attendees! We’ll be discussing a short article about the 1966 Free DC campaign (available at this link). You are welcome to read the article before the meeting if you’d like to join the reading group! We’ll have a few printed copied on hand, but you’re encouraged to print your own copy in advance if you’d like to have it with you at the meeting.
