Justice for DC’s Youth
Young people deserve better than racist and ineffective curfew zones, and they deserve better than a mayor who works with federal agents to enforce them.
Young people deserve better than to be harassed and detained by armed soldiers on Metro. They deserve better than Metro Transit Police and MPD officers pulling them off bikes or stopping them at escalators, and they deserve better than elected leaders who are willing to use “superpredator” tropes when discussing our communities’ needs.
Our young people deserve resources, places where kids can be kids, and yes — they deserve to be able to make mistakes like all teenagers do, without lifelong consequences. On August 8, ahead of the one year anniversary of DC’s occupation, DC’s young people rose up and spoke out about why we need to end the “DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force,” end the DC occupation, and get the National Guard Out Now.
