Tell DC Council to support Full Accountability in Arrest Reporting
On Wednesday, February 25, dozens of DC residents testified before DC Council to express ongoing concerns about how federal agents operate in our communities. Federal agents are traveling in caravans with MPD, meeting every day and coordinating with MPD, making arrests with MPD, and have committed multiple acts of violence and even death while working in partnership with MPD.
DC residents and our elected leaders have almost no information about this cooperation. It is beyond time for us to know what agencies are working alongside MPD, and what is happening when MPD and federal agents conduct arrests and other enforcement.
Yesterday, Councilmember Robert White introduced the Full Accountability in Arrest Reporting (FAAR) Emergency Amendment Act of 2026. This emergency bill would require DC’s Metropolitan Police Department to do three things:
Document the federal law enforcement officers present at the scene of an MPD arrest;
Document federal law enforcement officers’ use of force;
Publish MPD body-worn camera footage of any federal use of force, in accordance with consent requirements for victims.
This type of transparency and accountability is appropriate and urgently needed. And Councilmember White has good company in thinking so: Councilmembers Doni Crawford, Brianne Nadeau, Janeese Lewis George, Zachary Parker, Charles Allen, Wendell Felder, and Trayon White all signed on as co-sponsors of the bill.
The Council will vote for the bill on Tuesday, March 3, and between now and then we want to thank these co-sponsor for their leadership, and tell everyone on the Council to VOTE YES on this bill. Use our toolkit to tell your Councilmembers to support the bill.
