Stop MPD’s cooperation with Trump’s federal forces

Over the past year, DC’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has begun to cooperate with federal law enforcement more than ever before. We now routinely see MPD and federal agents traveling together, responding to incidents together, and communicating with one another. MPD and federal forces are helping and learning from one another — and that dynamic is dangerous for our communities.

Across the country these federal agents are employing violent or deadly tactics — particularly against Black people, immigrants, and even bystanders opposed to their agenda. Federal agents are ignoring the law, lying about incidents, and refusing to take accountability for the harm they are causing. Federal agents are not our allies in the effort to make DC safer.

On Wednesday, February 25, DC Council will hold its annual Performance Oversight Hearing about MPD. Free DC and Harriet’s Wildest Dreams call on all DC residents who want an end to this cooperation to submit testimony to DC Council, and pack the hearing with us. Use the tools below to join us.

Submit Testimony

The most important way you can take action on this demand is to submit written testimony to DC Council. If you have been directly impacted by police violence or misconduct, we also encourage you to sign up to testify in person or on Zoom. Use our Testimony Toolkit to submit your testimony.

Pack the Hearing Room

On Wednesday, February 25, Councilmember Brooke Pinto, Chair of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, will hold a public hearing on this issue. We want to make it clear in the room that day that this issue demands attention. Join us for a shift to pack the hearing room that day.
