DC public schools go back to school on Monday. This season should be a time of joy, celebration, and silly first-day photos.

But the presence of armed National Guard members all over DC, as well as federal agents who have been violently arresting community members for weeks, many DC families are feeling scared, stressed, and anxious as we get ready for back to school.

Parents, caregivers, and PTAs across DC are invited to join the American Federation of Teachers for an emergency conversation ahead of the first day of school. We’ll discuss best practices for educators right now, lessons from Los Angeles parents who have been dealing with ICE for months, and how to support school community protection.
