DC wants our money, Mike
For the past six weeks House Speaker Mike Johnson has delayed a bill with broad bipartisan support that would restore DC’s power to spend our local money.
Now, after six weeks of inaction and $1.1 billion of local DC money frozen, DC is on the brink of drastic cuts to programs and services. Schools are freezing spending. Hiring is halted. Critical services like public safety, transit, food access, and sanitation are at risk. Our communities are paying the price.
DC residents spent a month asking for action politely. We made calls, we made office visits, students delivered hand-written letters, and everyone from Mayor Bowser to President Trump to economic think tanks to members of Johnson’s own caucus called for him to pass this bill.
Speaker Johnson is not welcome in our communities while he’s holding our local funding hostage. We will not allow Speaker Johnson to enjoy “business as usual” while DC workers face furloughs and families lose vital services.
We demand immediate passage of the DC Local Funds Act (S. 1077) — no riders, no excuses. Send a letter to Speaker Johnson to add your voice to this demand.
