Remembering Nolberto Meza: One Year of Occupation
Yesterday on Day 2, we remembered Nolberto Meza.
On the evening of June 20, Nolberto was making deliveries for DoorDash in Woodley Park. Many blocks north, U.S. Park Police began a high-speed chase of what they thought was a stolen car, traveling at reckless speed through a neighborhood crowded with families leaving the Zoo and commuters on their way home from work. The chase eventually arrived at the Taft Bridge where one of the vehicles struck Nolberto, killing him instantly.
Nolberto's family shared their anguish in laying him to rest. Faith leaders and artists helped us acknowledge and move through collective grief.
Trump is increasingly using Park Police to carry out his agenda here in DC. High-speed chases are deadly, and our most vulnerable community members are the ones who suffer the consequences. Last night we raised our voices to demand #JusticeForNolbertoMeza, #EndTrumpsTaskForce, and #EndTheDCoccupation.
